More Details:

Lancia Appia Coupe by Pininfarina, 1959

Registration number MAS 868

This is a beautifully renovated yet preserved example.  Totally rust free having spent most of its early life in South Africa.  It was imported and registered in the UK in 2003 and put on the road and into regular use.

The car was acquired by me in early 2011 and some sympathetic restoration was carried out, paying particular attention to retain a degree of patina and originality. The bulk of works carried out in 2011 consisted of a cosmetic repaint in its original deep wine red, the off white roof was in excellent condition and just received a good polish. Various chrome and bright work were re-plated and the interior received only a cosmetic clean.  The brakes were also over hauled at this time.  It was then sold on to its next owner, Julian Taylor, who very enthusiastically continued the maintenance and improvements with recent works including, full engine over-haul, replacement clutch, water pump, electronic ignition, and re built carburettor. Complete new stainless steel exhaust system and new electronic fuel pump, ignition leads, coil, plugs, hoses etc. etc.  Along with many other details attended to. The cars ownership then came back to me in 2015, and a comprehensive engine rebuild was carried out by marque specialists Omicron of Norwich, some further sympathetic detailing has also been recently under-taken.

These lovely quality little coupes were produced between 1957 and 1963. Pininfarina were responsible for the production of around 300 Appia Coupes.

This is one of only 3 or 4 examples known in the UK.

It is based on the floor pan engine and bulk head of an Appia Saloon which then had this stylish coupe body fitted by the coach builder Pininfarina, who were also responsible for styling and building many other beautiful cars of the period from Ferrari to Fiat and more.

The name Appia is taken form the name of a Roman military road that ran from Rome to Brindisi in the heel of Italy.  An Appia coupe was seen as an ultra-stylish fashion statement too in the late 50’s and early 60’s, especially after seeing the beautiful Sylva Koscina drive an Appia on the silver screen in the Italian film ‘Il Vigile ‘ (the Policeman).

The car has a large, interesting history file, also has an owner’s manual and 2 rare factory PR brochures.

This is a lovely car in first class useable condition, drive it anywhere, it cruises happily at 55 mph all day long.

Private owner selling to reduce car collection (Lancia club member). Genuine enquiries only please.
